Podcast Studio Equipment: Beginner, Intermediate, and Pro

This page outlines a basic gear guide for three podcasting setups: Day 1 (just starting), Growing/Intermediate, and Professional. The advice below is based on personal experience – I’m not affiliated with any brands. Use this as a starting point only. Please do your own research and consider our training courses on Skool.com (or in-person classes) for more in-depth guidance.
Day One
Just Start
-
Smartphone only → Your phone has a built-in camera and microphone. That’s all you need to begin.
-
Quiet space → Record in a quiet room to reduce echo and background noise.
-
Upload apps →
-
Spotify for Podcasters app → Upload your audio podcast for free distribution to Spotify, Apple, and more.
-
YouTube Studio app → Upload video episodes or audio with a static image.
-
I’m Doing This (Intermediate)
-
Laptop + Audio Interface → Use an interface like the Focusrite Scarlett to connect condenser mics to your computer.
-
Recording software → On Mac, GarageBand works well for recording. Audacity is another free option.
-
Microphones → Two condenser mics (e.g., Shure MV7 or RØDE PodMic) for clear, professional audio.
-
Video editing → Wondershare Filmora is beginner-friendly for editing your episodes.
-
Cameras → Two HD cameras (or smartphones capable of 1080p/4K) with tripods and basic lighting.
-
Uploading →
-
Distribute your podcast free via Spotify for Podcasters (inc an RSS feed to cover Spotify, Apple, Amazon).
-
Upload video separately to YouTube.
-
Professional
-
Remote & streaming platform → Riverside.fm (paid) for high-quality online interviews and live streaming.
-
Audio console → RØDECaster Pro II to mix multiple microphones and add effects live.
-
Microphones → Up to six condenser mics (RØDE PodMics are excellent for studio setups).
-
Cameras & lighting → At least two 4K cameras (DSLRs, mirrorless, or high-end webcams) with soft lighting for a professional studio look.
-
Editing software → Adobe Premiere Pro (video) and Adobe Audition (audio) for industry-standard editing.
